Functional Nutrition

Functional nutrition is an evidence-based, systems biology approach to nutrition that sees each patient as a whole with interrelated body systems. Its application results in normalizing physiology and restoring function.

Laura Brown, our dietitian, utilizes personalized nutrition recommendations that are practical and attainable. She also provides support to help each patient implement these recommendations so they have the best chance at success. She not only has a deep understanding of nutrition, but also how to help patients turn around habits that hold them back.

Nutrition is a vastly underutilized tool in traditional healthcare. What we eat goes far beyond the calories that fuel our bodies. The choices we make can either foster healing or promote chronic disease. Food is information, providing our bodies with the signals and building blocks it needs to function. We can support our energy, quality of sleep, hormones, detox pathways, mood, blood sugar, circulation, cellular function, organ health and so much more with the choices we make every single day.

Nutrition Education includes:

  • Food journal consultation
  • A deep dive into the three macronutrients
  • The importance of fiber, phytonutrients, and micronutrients
  • Identifying food habits and patterns that may not be serving you
  • Identifying thoughts and feelings around food that may be getting in your way
  • How to eat successfully for optimal digestion & absorption
  • How to properly fuel yourself & balance blood sugar
  • Meal preparation, shopping guidance, and recipe inspiration
  • Support for specific therapeutic diets
  • How to feed “good” bacteria rather than “bad” bacteria and pathogens
  • How to eat so that your microbiome works for you rather than against you

Lifestyle support and counseling is another key piece of the puzzle. Too often we dismiss our daily routines, habits, and mindset thinking they don’t impact our overall health. When we remove stressors and distractions, we set ourselves up for success finding our symptoms dissipating and our lives becoming easier, happier, and healthier.

Lifestyle Education includes:

  • Stress management techniques
  • Morning and evening routine support
  • Sleep hygiene
  • Nervous system support & education
  • Movement and exercise tips
  • Suggestions on cleaning up your environment
  • S.M.A.R.T goals each time to keep you on track

In our practice, we empower you with support, education, and tools to shift your eating patterns and change your daily habits to help you maximize your potential for health.
