How We Work

In 2020, after dedicating 12 years to in-person patient care, Dr. Quin recognized the growing preference for virtual consultations, which are a perfect fit for functional medicine. She now works almost exclusively via videoconferencing.

After meeting with Caitlin to discover more about our practice, your next step involves scheduling an initial 90-minute visit with Dr. Quin and/or a 60-minute visit with Caitlin. While most of our patients choose to benefit from the comprehensive care provided by both Dr. Quin and Caitlin, some may choose to work exclusively with one of them. However, working with both Dr. Quin and Caitlin brings about a synergistic effect. Dr. Quin's lab-based supplements exhibit enhanced efficacy when coupled with Caitlin's expertise in fine-tuning diet and lifestyle for patients. This combined approach ensures a more comprehensive and effective strategy toward optimizing health.

During the initial 90-minute session with Dr. Quin, she skillfully pieces together your health puzzle by delving into your health history, listening attentively, and connecting vital dots. By the session's end, Dr. Quin initiates the next step by ordering 3-4 labs, conveniently shipped to your home.

Early on, both Dr. Quin and our nutritionist, Caitlin Murphy, initiate lifestyle recommendations and may prescribe supplements that offer immediate benefits, irrespective of the pending lab results. Once the labs come in, the excitement starts, as they guide precisely which supplements your body is needing to normalize physiology.

The Labs

The functional labs that Dr. Quin orders are a combination of saliva, urine, stool, and blood. Labs which utilize the first three are easily administered at home, and then simply need to be dropped off at UPS or FedEx. For labs that require a blood draw, there are mobile phlebotomists who can come to your home.

Supplements

Though there are supplement programs that can be prescribed based on the clinical picture, since so many different underlying causes can create similar symptoms, we make the most progress when supplement programs are specific to lab results. Dr. Quin has expertise in advanced functional lab interpretation and lab-driven nutritional interventions to correct biochemical, hormonal, and nutrigenomic imbalances uncovered by the labs.

Follow-up Visits

For follow up visits, when there is a lab to review, the appointment times are longer, about 60-90 minutes. When there isn't a lab to review, visits are generally shorter, about 20-45 minutes, and include check-ins related to the prescribed supplement programs. Since the labs often illuminate imbalances in multiple body systems, and since effective treatment requires a specific sequence of treatment for optimal results, follow up visits involve expert guidance in navigating through the phases of treatment.

The Goal

Dr. Quin's eventual goal is for your health to improve to such an extent that you only have to come two to four times per year to maintain the balance we've achieved. Since many health conditions are multifactorial and complex, this can take a year or two. The longer you've had a health condition, the longer it takes to unravel the imbalance. The more you're willing to make the necessary lifestyle changes and stay adherent to the supplement programs, the faster you'll feel better.
